Treasures in Darkness: A Grieving Mother Shares Her Heart, Sharon W. Betters, P&R Publishing, 2005.
"I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name. (Isa. 45:2-3) "God is keeping the promise of Isaiah 45:2-3 to me. In this book I share some of those treasures of darkness. It's my prayer that one day they will be your treasures as well. "When death grabbed my youngest child, Mark, and tried to destroy our family, I wondered how my heart kept beating. In my grief, I felt estranged from God. ... How would I ever trust my Heavenly Father again?" In this book, Sharon Betters shares her very personal journal, and the wisdom and hope she received from the loving God who drew her back to Himself. From page 144: “Do you believe that God will meet all your needs? Do not hesitate to verbalize your longing for God to restore your soul. He is pleased when we plead with Him because we know He is the only One who can meet our deepest heart needs. Do not define for Him what the restoration must be. I call such gems treasures in darkness. …recognize when He sends the evidences of His presence and allow Him to love you His way. The most reliable messages we receive are from His Word.” Comments: "In twenty years of women's ministry, I have never read such a compelling, painfully real, transparent perspective on grief. Sharon Betters brings hope to a broken heart in the midst of profound loss." --Tammy Maltby, Co-host of Aspiring Women and author of Lifegiving "No hope is real if it fails to recognize the reality of the pain and the necessity of pressing through darkness with nothing but faith to find our way. Sharon squarely faces personal pain and tenderly offers the realities of faith to provide a journey to hope even through our darkest nights." --Bryan Chappell, Covenant Theological Seminary
