Pastoral Ministry
Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage -- with great patience and careful instruction. 2 Timothy 4:2
Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" ... "Take care of my sheep." John 21:16
The Pastoral Ministry is the leadership ministry of Cornerstone Church. The pastor and the other elders of the church oversee the care of our members. In the Bible, in Acts chapter 6, we are taught that the elders of the church are to spend most of their time in prayer and the ministry of the Word. Overseeing the spiritual growth of God's people through teaching, preaching, and prayer is the first job of our elders.
What we do: The leadership of the church meets at least once monthly to pray about, discuss, and decide on church-related matters. The ruling elders and the teaching elder (the pastor) make up the first "court" of the church. Here, the direction of the church is constantly assessed and our faithfulness to God's Word evaluated. Session's oversight of the other ministries and their decisions is also a part of shepherding.
Caring for the members means visiting, calling, caring for the felt needs, praying for, disciplining and encouraging them. The elders encourage spiritual development of all members; men, women and children are all called to grow into "adulthood" in the body of Christ.
Our hope: It is the desire of the Pastoral Ministry to be faithful to God's Word and to be effective as under-shepherds of the Great Shepherd. "We want to be like Christ in all things. Good leaders are bold, meek, loving and strong, pioneers and servants, and above all, daily picking up their own cross and following Him." Training leaders to take their places or begin new ministries is one of the elder's ongoing goals. "It is our hope that good leaders will help grow God's Kingdom of Grace in our hearts first, then in our community."
