How To Have Eternal Life…
Five questions and the “Roman Road”

1. Why is it that in every culture and in every period of history everyone feels a sense of guilt? Where does our inherent sense of what is right and wrong come from, and why do you and I usually want to do the wrong?

  • For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23

  • For the wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23a

2. Why is it that the things that we earn in life usually make us arrogant, but the things we receive as gifts are the things that humble us? In fact, undeserved gifts are the things we treasure most of all (ie. love, forgiveness, family). In the same way, how could anyone earn a relationship with God? If He really exists, the only way to know Him must be because He gave the gift of salvation first.

  • But the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23b

3. What must you do? Every gift must be received. Life is full of choices and the consequences that come with those choices. Receiving His gift means you accept the truth of it and fully trust in the effectiveness of it. God sacrificed his Son on the Cross because He loves what He created - you!

  • If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

4. Do you want real peace in your life? Peace with God includes the possibility of peace with yourself, your neighbors, and your world. Without God’s peace in your life there is no basis for real peace in any relationships you have.

  • Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Romans 5:1

5. What’s a proper response to all this? The best part of faith in Jesus Christ is not only that eternal life is yours, but that your life right now is free of condemnation. You may still sin, you may go through hard times, you may be tried and tested, but you belong to God now and He has nothing but good purposes for you – no more condemnation! That kind of good news actually makes you want to repent and serve Him even more.

  • So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

  • And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:38,39
